The confidence in this girl grows by the day… Annika was called in for her audition today for the competition team. When I asked her how she felt just before she went in, she calmly yet excitedly said “so excited.” Considering that she didn’t take tap or jazz this past year, I thought she might be a little tentative or nervous (this audition is one-on-one with the studio’s owner/choreographer).
She mastered the required steps and aced her audition. We’re so proud of her! I’ve said it so many times, but I just can’t get over her natural ability to dance at such a young age. She picks things up so naturally.
On top of the audition, Annika’s ballet class was scouted by a dance examiner in June (I had no idea…) Annika was one of a few girls in her class selected to be in the primary syllabus ballet class starting in September. To be selected for the syllabus class, the examiner looks for posture, rhythm and the dancer’s ability and focus. This means that Annika will be dancing with the older girls who have been one level ahead of her. The teacher will be focusing on bringing the dancers’ abilities to the highest level, focusing on certain movements and steps, and the dancers will be examined by professional examiners at the end of the year in Milton.
We’ll soon be seeing what’s in store for our first official year of competition dance schedule…. This year will surely determine Annika’s commitment and we’ll see if her love for dance carries on through this heavier schedule!
