Must Read!

I had to post this – one of the funniest, most accurate parent reads out there right now.  For any of my friends and family who are contemplating whether they should have children one day…. read below and then test yourself.  All of this has been my life for five years straight…. and then add a husband and dog on top of it Winking smile hehehehe

Test 1: Preparation

Women: To prepare for pregnancy

1. Put on a dressing gown and stick a beanbag down the front.

2. Leave it there.

3. After 9 months remove 5% of the beans.

Men: To prepare for children

1. Go to a local chemist, tip the contents of your wallet onto the counter and tell the pharmacist to help himself

2. Go to the supermarket. Arrange to have your salary paid directly to their head office.

3. Go home. Pick up the newspaper and read it for the last time.

Test 2: Knowledge

Find a couple who are already parents and berate them about their methods of discipline, lack of patience, appallingly low tolerance levels and how they have allowed their children to run wild.

Suggest ways in which they might improve their child's sleeping habits, toilet training, table manners and overall behaviour.

Enjoy it. It will be the last time in your life that you will have all the answers.

Test 3: Nights

To discover how the nights will feel:

You can kiss goodbye to precious beauty sleep as soon as you have a child

You can kiss goodbye to precious beauty sleep as soon as you have a child

1. Walk around the living room from 5pm to 10pm carrying a wet bag weighing approximately 4 - 6kg, with a radio turned to static (or some other obnoxious sound) playing loudly.

2.  At 10pm, put the bag down, set the alarm for midnight and go to sleep.

3. Get up at 11pm and walk the bag around the living room until 1am.

4. Set the alarm for 3am.

5. As you can't get back to sleep, get up at 2am and make a cup of tea.

6. Go to bed at 2.45am.

7. Get up again at 3am when the alarm goes off.

8. Sing songs in the dark until 4am.

9. Put the alarm on for 5am. Get up when it goes off.

10. Make breakfast.

Keep this up for 5 years. LOOK CHEERFUL.

Test 4: Dressing Small Children

1. Buy a live octopus and a string bag.

2. Attempt to put the octopus into the string bag so that no arms hangout.

Time Allowed: 5 minutes.

Test 5: Cars

1. Forget the BMW. Buy a practical 5-door wagon.

2. Buy a chocolate ice cream cone and put it in the glove compartment. Leave it there.

3. Get a coin. Insert it into the CD player.

4. Take a box of chocolate biscuits; mash them into the back seat.

5. Run a garden rake along both sides of the car.

westMONSTERrun!

Finally getting some downtime after another successful westMONSTERrun.  So proud of James for pulling together another successful race.  We had a good turnout despite the weather conditions…. Again this year we had high winds (gusts of 90km/h), rain and snow, and cold temps.  The race went very well despite this – the support from our community and volunteer help is growing and that’s what’s so appreciated!  Third year’s a charm – so lets wish for a warm day with no rain next year!

The girls, nana and I are off to a family girls weekend in New York on Friday.  This is the annual get-together my cousins and aunt organize.  I’ve missed this trip for the past three years, but now that my girls are easier to travel with, we’re looking forward to it!!  The boys get to stay home and have some guy bonding time – Poker and beer Saturday night LOL

Pumpkin Party!

Papa came over for our annual Pumpkin Party!  We tried a new trick of using a drill for the two pumpkins Papa carved, and Annika wanted me to carve a “princess pumpkin” so I used a sketch and did my best!  All pumpkins turned out as planned!

All set to go!  Selena wanted to paint hers

Recent Annika Randomness

IMAG1474

Annika had her follow-up eye exam – the doctor is so impressed with your improvement that she doesn’t need to see her for a year!  Not only that, Annika’s prescription strength has decreased and she is passing eye exams that most children with similar eye difficulties can’t!  So proud of her!!!

One of my dad’s birthday presents to Annika was his shaven moustache! (Annika has been bugging my dad forever to shave off his moustache so it doesn’t tickle her when he kisses her!)  Annika was the first, and only, to notice it!

Super Thanksgiving Weekend!

We had one of our biggest Thanksgiving gatherings here at BJAMS this year.  John and Char stayed the weekend; my parents, brother and Jenn and my grandpa came over for turkey dinner on Sunday.  For the fourth year in a row we ran at the Thanksgiving Day Races in Guelph.  Next year Annika gets to run the 1k!  This year, both girls ran the 100 meter kids dash (Selena didn’t face plant this year!)

All just a warm-up for BJAMS’ Christmas festivities in a couple months!!

Our little 5 year old!

Not sure that we could have packed in much more for Annika’s 5th Birthday Weekend Celebrations!  It just so happened that there were a few community events happening on her special weekend, so we were able to celebrate in many ways!

The Guelph Public Library had a family-fun fundraiser, from there were went to a cross-fit challenge at the Clair Road Emergency Medical Services Centre that was raising money in memory of Jennifer Kovacs (a young police officer who lost her life on duty earlier this year).  Sunday morning we all ran the Run for the Cure, and then off to Annika’s Birthday Party at the Y with 12 of her closest family and school friends.  Today, she gets to feel special at daycare and got to choose the homemade dessert she gets later today, and then home for a family dinner celebration!

She sure is our precious, sweet little girl who is always so thankful and grateful for the little things in life – she helps us all to keep life in perspective.  We love her so very much! ♥
