Must Read!

I had to post this – one of the funniest, most accurate parent reads out there right now.  For any of my friends and family who are contemplating whether they should have children one day…. read below and then test yourself.  All of this has been my life for five years straight…. and then add a husband and dog on top of it Winking smile hehehehe

Test 1: Preparation

Women: To prepare for pregnancy

1. Put on a dressing gown and stick a beanbag down the front.

2. Leave it there.

3. After 9 months remove 5% of the beans.

Men: To prepare for children

1. Go to a local chemist, tip the contents of your wallet onto the counter and tell the pharmacist to help himself

2. Go to the supermarket. Arrange to have your salary paid directly to their head office.

3. Go home. Pick up the newspaper and read it for the last time.

Test 2: Knowledge

Find a couple who are already parents and berate them about their methods of discipline, lack of patience, appallingly low tolerance levels and how they have allowed their children to run wild.

Suggest ways in which they might improve their child's sleeping habits, toilet training, table manners and overall behaviour.

Enjoy it. It will be the last time in your life that you will have all the answers.

Test 3: Nights

To discover how the nights will feel:

You can kiss goodbye to precious beauty sleep as soon as you have a child

3. Get up at 11pm and walk the bag around the living room until 1am.

4. Set the alarm for 3am.

5. As you can't get back to sleep, get up at 2am and make a cup of tea.

8. Sing songs in the dark until 4am.

9. Put the alarm on for 5am. Get up when it goes off.

10. Make breakfast.

Keep this up for 5 years. LOOK CHEERFUL.

Test 4: Dressing Small Children

1. Buy a live octopus and a string bag.

2. Attempt to put the octopus into the string bag so that no arms hangout.

Time Allowed: 5 minutes.

Finally getting some downtime after another successful westMONSTERrun.  So proud of James for pulling together another successful race.  We had a good turnout despite the weather conditions…. Again this year we had high winds (gusts of 90km/h), rain and snow, and cold temps.  The race went very well despite this – the support from our community and volunteer help is growing and that’s what’s so appreciated!  Third year’s a charm – so lets wish for a warm day with no rain next year!

The race got front page newspaper!!

Karsten won (far left) and Jack second (far right)

Kicking off the day!

Sweet little Annika climbing the mudslide of a hill in the kids monster dash.

Anthony’s brother had one of the best costumes of the day!

BJAMS’ halloween party was even better than last year!  The costumes were outstanding!

The girls, nana and I are off to a family girls weekend in New York on Friday.  This is the annual get-together my cousins and aunt organize.  I’ve missed this trip for the past three years, but now that my girls are easier to travel with, we’re looking forward to it!!  The boys get to stay home and have some guy bonding time – Poker and beer Saturday night LOL

Pumpkin Party!

Papa came over for our annual Pumpkin Party!  We tried a new trick of using a drill for the two pumpkins Papa carved, and Annika wanted me to carve a “princess pumpkin” so I used a sketch and did my best!  All pumpkins turned out as planned!

All set to go!  Selena wanted to paint hers

Finished products!  A flowery design, Cinderella, and Annika’s smiley face pumpkin (that papa helped with Winking smile)

of course one of the best parts!  Roasted pumpkin seeds YUM! and Healthy for those health nuts out there - packed with iron, magnesium, fibre, zinc, potassium, healthy fats, protein, and tryptophan (to help you sleep!)

and…. nana finished the tooth fairy pillow!  So Annika’s allowed to lose her tooth any time now!

Mavie and Timmie love the fall!

Tug of war! (Mavie always wins)

Recent Annika Randomness

Annika had her follow-up eye exam – the doctor is so impressed with your improvement that she doesn’t need to see her for a year!  Not only that, Annika’s prescription strength has decreased and she is passing eye exams that most children with similar eye difficulties can’t!  So proud of her!!!

One of my dad’s birthday presents to Annika was his shaven moustache! (Annika has been bugging my dad forever to shave off his moustache so it doesn’t tickle her when he kisses her!)  Annika was the first, and only, to notice it!

Annika has her first loose tooth!!!!!  My mom is making her a tooth fairy pillow….she doesn’t have too much time to finish!

At her recent school field trip, Annika found the biggest apple!

Super Thanksgiving Weekend!

We had one of our biggest Thanksgiving gatherings here at BJAMS this year.  John and Char stayed the weekend; my parents, brother and Jenn and my grandpa came over for turkey dinner on Sunday.  For the fourth year in a row we ran at the Thanksgiving Day Races in Guelph.  Next year Annika gets to run the 1k!  This year, both girls ran the 100 meter kids dash (Selena didn’t face plant this year!)

All just a warm-up for BJAMS’ Christmas festivities in a couple months!!

Some pics from Char:

Pretty new dresses from auntie for the birthday girls!  (belated for Annika and early for Selena)

More birthday fun!  Char brought “pottery painting to go!”

Getting the kids wired before bed….  I can’t wait for David to have kids!!!!…hehehe  Smile with tongue out

Showing off his brand new gold-plated poker cards – and my mom getting prepped for her first ever game of poker!  Turned out to be the most drawn-out, long, 3.5 hour boring game of poker (to them an “epic” game)

Timmie and James

…and pics from my mom

We’re laughing because Selena, on her own, ran down the stairs and posed like this a second before the picture was taken

Exhausted after a full day of cooking, family festivities and finally settling the kids to bed….

Some of the kids from St. Ignatius who ran in the races

Papa was only one who could convince Selena to put her shoes on the right feet!

Our little 5 year old!

Not sure that we could have packed in much more for Annika’s 5th Birthday Weekend Celebrations!  It just so happened that there were a few community events happening on her special weekend, so we were able to celebrate in many ways!

The Guelph Public Library had a family-fun fundraiser, from there were went to a cross-fit challenge at the Clair Road Emergency Medical Services Centre that was raising money in memory of Jennifer Kovacs (a young police officer who lost her life on duty earlier this year).  Sunday morning we all ran the Run for the Cure, and then off to Annika’s Birthday Party at the Y with 12 of her closest family and school friends.  Today, she gets to feel special at daycare and got to choose the homemade dessert she gets later today, and then home for a family dinner celebration!

She sure is our precious, sweet little girl who is always so thankful and grateful for the little things in life – she helps us all to keep life in perspective.  We love her so very much! ♥

Our Sassy little superstar birthday girl!

Excited for the celebrations to begin!

The men (and Uncle David stealing popcorn from Selena LOL!)

Great friends!

To keep the kids calm during present time, we played “Magical Music Wand”  Worked well!

My attempt at a group shot….. FAIL!

Some of her new toys!  Lalaloopsy’s are her favourite dolls

Sisterly love

Still playing…. a few hours later
